If there's a cultural exchange, there's a translation.  
To be a good translator, having a thorough knowledge of the mother tongue and the foreign language is not enough. Culture is an inherent element of language, which is why we must immerse ourselves deeply in it to be able to adapt and transmit these culturemes.
You could say that a translator is a mediator who forges a bridge between two different cultures and fosters mutual understanding. Communicating, making ourselves understood and living in community, is the foundation of the human race. And I am proud and honoured for having that role. So, if you think about it, a translator does not simply translate, we transfer all those realities that do not have a perfect equivalence from one language to another. We must adapt and deconstruct connotations, wordplay, intentionality, etc. and then recompose them all in the target language making sure that nothing (or as little as possible) is lost in the process. We must also break down the barriers between these two cultures so that their customs and traditions, ways of thinking and acting are not an impediment for a successful communication.
